Labs and More: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant had a dramatic impact on 216 rescued dogs on their path to finding forever homes. Labs and More provided each of these adoptions with a reduced fee that made it possible for these dogs to secure their new lives with loving families.
This grant positioned Labs and More to utilize its expertise in assisting pregnant mothers, puppy litters, seniors, and otherwise homeless, discarded dogs to find paths to new homes. This project gave refuge and relief to forgotten dogs who needed medical attention, love, and training to become the loyal companions that they were meant to be. The fees were utilized strategically to ensure that rescued dogs who were more challenging to place in homes received additional support.
Specifically, this grant provided Labs and More with the capacity to increase the number of rescued dogs that were on their last day of life in a shelter, on the streets, or abandoned by their owners and ensure they were provided a path to their forever homes. Every dollar went toward decreasing Labs and More's adoption fees, eliminating financial obstacles to adoptions. Further, these reduced fees expedited the timeline required for Labs and More's rescued dogs to find forever homes. These funds expanded the number of rescued dogs that Labs and More was able to save each month and place into loving homes.

The adopter of “Gitar the Puppy” (first photo) was a single mom who desperately wanted her daughter to know the love of a puppy and the responsibility of caring for the puppy. They just could not afford the costs, but were able to bring home their new forever friend with Kia’s support.
After five days of attempting to catch Chiffon, she was finally in the arms of our friends who tirelessly save these precious animals.
Chiffon was a sweet little girl who was suspected to be pregnant and arrived with a serious wound on her tummy. The wound was very troubling and hard to look at, but it helps one to understand the pain and suffering she was enduring.
Chiffon was a gentle soul, just 30 lbs., who was found living in the worst of conditions. Her head was low and she was acting scared and depressed when she arrived at Labs and More’s shelter. We were fearful not only for her life but also for the lives of her unborn babies. We knew this was a dog we needed to help.
She arrived at our Rescue and Care Center and within a day we rushed her to the vet as her health was failing. Her wound was infected and she was not eating. The doctors determined that Chiffon had a cancerous tumor known as a Transmissible Venereal Tumor (TVT) and that it was spreading.
Labs and More was Chiffon’s only path to having her babies and receiving the immediate care necessary to save her own life. However, without Kia’s funding support, Chiffon would have gone unadopted because her adopted family could not afford the full cost to adopt her.
With the reduced adoption fee, Chiffon was adopted and has now settled into her forever home with a sweet retired couple who show her constant affection, play fetch with her, and take her on hikes on the beach every evening.
