Victoria County S.P.C.A.: Purina Canada Happy Paws & Hearts Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Thanks to the Purina Canada Happy Paws & Hearts Operation Grant, the Victoria County S.P.C.A. was able to reduce our expenses by thousands of dollars. We are a rural shelter that has been operating for 40 years. Our closest town has 1,300 people, so fundraising is always a challenge, especially during the winter months. We had a net loss of $13,000 from January to April 2024. This grant helped our budget to ensure we could continue to care for the animals at the shelter and to take in additional pets.

How many pets did this grant help?

This grant helped us to continue to look after the cats in our care, including the 19 at the shelter as well as five new intakes.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

This grant ensured we were able to care for cats like Leyla and Layne, a mother-and-son duo who were found trying to survive the cold winter months outside.

Layne was only 5 months old when he was found outside, cuddling up to his mother for warmth. A kind family contacted us and brought the two sweet cats to our shelter for warmth, food, and the very best veterinary care. We are so incredibly grateful to Purina for helping us!
