Zoe's House Rescue: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant was utilized to help pay for the vet bills for one of our dogs, Riggs. Riggs needed urgent vet care when he developed aspiration pneumonia. He was monitored at the animal hospital for a few days. They were running labs, giving fluids and medications, getting scans, and providing all other vet care to ensure Riggs would recover as quickly as possible.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Riggs is a French bulldog puppy who came in with his two brothers. They were all surrendered by a commercial breeder due to having cleft palates.

When they were surrendered into our care, we immediately needed to start tube-feeding them around the clock. Unfortunately, one of the babies didn’t make it and passed, leaving Riggs and his brother Benson.

Over time they graduated to being bottle-fed, which came with risks but was needed to help them develop. Riggs began acting lethargic and his foster mom knew something was up. He was admitted to the emergency animal hospital and given the best vet care he could receive. He was diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia.

While there was concern that his brother Benson would also develop this, we were thankful that his check-ups were clear.

Riggs spent a few days in the animal hospital being observed and getting treated. We were thankful that he pulled through and has since fully recovered. He went home to be with his brother and made a full recovery. Since then, both of them have found their forever homes!
