T.O. Rescue: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The grant enabled our adoptable cats to experience outdoor play while remaining in a secure environment. The new catio facilitated the cats' exposure to fresh air, exercise, and sunlight. We plan to procure cat trees and toys to foster social development. The cats are already relishing the new catio and have discovered immense excitement and joy in free outdoor play. Our kitties will have more room to explore while awaiting adoption.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Garfield’s (first photo) family lost their home and were unable to keep him. At the time, they were residing in a motel when an opportunity arose to relocate with relatives in another state, but unfortunately, they were unable to bring Garfield with them. Consequently, they contacted our rescue to help Garfield.

As an adult cat at the time, Garfield’s adoption prospects were rendered more challenging. Adult cats are frequently overlooked in favor of younger kittens. In the interim, Garfield is available for adoption and seeking a forever home. He will have the opportunity to experience the new catio and enjoy its amenities.

You can meet Garfield here.

Sabrina (second photo) was living outdoors in Lytle Creek during a fire. Our rescue was contacted for help. We took Sabrina into our care. She was severely ill upon arrival, and it took considerable time to nurse her back to health for adoption.

Unfortunately, she grew older. Black kitties are difficult to place. A common misconception persists that black cats bring bad luck. Finding Sabrina a suitable family has been challenging. Nevertheless, Sabrina enjoys the new catio while awaiting her forever home.

You can meet Sabrina here.
