Des Moines County Humane Society: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We are so thankful we received this grant. It helped us place five dogs and 28 cats into homes. We had three adoptions by low-income families, and we had one of our cat cafes close that had helped us house cats in our area, so we used a lot of the grant funds to empty that space before it closed, and we were successful with this grant! This has also helped more cats and dogs who were able to take the kennels of the ones that left so that they can find homes as well.
The costs of adoptions are up in our area due to vet costs, but with help from this grant, even low-income families are able to have pets now too. This helped move these pets a lot quicker than they may have found homes otherwise.
Our pets are proud they have foundations like yours to help them.

Bocephus, a black Lab (first photo), was here for 11 months for some reason. He was helped by this grant to be able to go home with this loving family!
We had a guy who became homeless. His dog had escaped and ended up at our shelter. We had the owner only pay $115 to get his dog fully vetted and up-to-date on vaccines here through our adoption program, as he had not told us it was his dog until after she was technically ours and in our program. He was very grateful for us and for this grant’s help. He is now in a new apartment and he has his dog back with him. Our normal cost would have been $195.
