Happy Life Animal Rescue: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The Kong donation was a total game-changer for our dogs! We are a rescue that takes in many dogs from stressful situations — including high-intake shelters and transport flights — so enrichment is essential to helping them decompress and adjust to their new environment. The Kongs provide both mental stimulation and comfort, giving our pups something positive to focus on while they settle into rescue life.
Our volunteers and staff use the Kongs daily during quiet time to help nervous or anxious dogs relax after intake; for crate training and feeding, keeping pups occupied in a healthy, rewarding way; and at adoption events, to reduce stress and keep dogs calm in a busy, stimulating environment.
The difference was immediate — fewer signs of kennel stress, more happy tail wags, and a whole lot of peanut butter-covered smiles.

Barclay, a Belgian Malinois, is a shining example of how enrichment changes lives. He came to us after being dumped with his siblings in an abandoned lot in Brooklyn. He was smart and loving but full of restless energy that, without direction, could easily turn into mischief.
For a dog like Barclay, mental stimulation isn’t optional — it’s essential. The Kong toys gave him exactly what he needed: a challenge, a reward, and an outlet for all that brilliant Malinois energy. Whether stuffed with treats or frozen with peanut butter, the Kongs helped keep his mind busy and his behavior focused.
Over time, Barclay transformed from a pup who struggled with impulse control into a confident, well-adjusted dog ready for adoption. His love for his Kongs helped him learn patience, independence, and calm — and ultimately helped him find his forever home.
