House Rabbit Society: Other Animals Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
Our Petfinder Foundation grant made it possible for House Rabbit Society to care for 81 rabbits over the course of one month. Half of the funds provided covered the cost of food, litter, and foster supplies for that month, making it possible for 40 of our rabbits to be placed in foster homes where they received love, attention, and enrichment. During this time, 12 of our special rabbits found their fur-ever homes! The remaining half of the funds helped provide medical care to our herd, which included four spays and neuters, 12 vaccinations, and medications for 13 rabbits. Through this medical intervention, these rabbits have regained their health and have been made available for adoption.

Alt+Tab (photos 1-3) reminds us why we do this work: Every rabbit deserves a second chance at love and comfort.
He is one of the most joyful rabbits you will ever meet. He’s very eager to meet anyone who stops by his pen. He has an unknown neurological condition that causes him to circle when he’s excited and sometimes he will topple over. He doesn’t let any of it dampen his spirit, though!
This sweet boy came to us at the beginning of the year from a local shelter after being surrendered by his owner. He spent years in a small cage and was fed an inappropriate diet of bread and fruit. The shelter wasn’t equipped to provide the extensive medical care he needed, but our veterinary team specializes in exactly these kinds of complex cases. When Alt+Tab was transferred to our care, we discovered a laundry list of health issues, including an inoperable lung abscess, severe dental disease, and a mass on his side.
Each of Alt+Tab’s medical concerns required careful evaluation for a safe path forward. Recently, he was neutered by our expert medical team at our in-house surgery suite and had the mass removed from his side. Our Petfinder Foundation grant award helped make this lifesaving medical care possible. In September, Alt+Tab (now Gus) was adopted by his new family, who shower this special boy with love and affection. Thank you, Petfinder Foundation, for making this “Hoppy” story possible.
