Stray Cat Alliance (501c3 nonprofit): Disaster Response and Recovery Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
As we move beyond the immediate fire danger threat, communities are now faced with the overwhelming task of recovering and rebuilding after the wildfires. Stray Cat Alliance is still in the thick of it, working tirelessly to create much-needed space in Los Angeles city and county shelters so displaced animals have a place to go.
Thanks to the immense support of our community of fosters, volunteers, donors, and rescue partners, as of early February, we have helped 226 cats impacted by the fire. We’ve created desperately needed space for displaced cats by providing permanent and temporary homes for 176 cats, including partnering with FieldHaven Feline Center to transport 47 cats to Northern California.
In creating this necessary space, we were quickly able to take in the first 56 cats displaced or affected by the fires. Those 56 cats received the medical attention and love they required outside of a chaotic shelter environment.
As of the end of February, we'd saved 295 cats. As of today (late March), we have exceeded our goal of helping 300 cats. Thanks to you, cats have been given shelter and safe harbor in a time of crisis. We are so grateful for your support!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Meet Norman (first and second photos), a resilient Siamese who has been through so much. After surviving the devastating L.A. wildfires in January, he came to us suffering from smoke inhalation and in need of urgent medical care. Thanks to the kindness and dedication of Dr. Mo and our incredible vet team, Norman is now in a loving foster home, getting the care and comfort he deserves.
Butterfly (third photo), a sweet calico, was surrendered to a crowded shelter during the fires. Thanks to your support, we rescued her, placed her in foster care, and now, her foster parent has officially adopted her! She now spends her days lounging in sunny windows, purring nonstop, and soaking up the love she always deserved. Her story is proof that, with love and care, even the most frightened cats can find happiness.
