Animal Rescue of the Rockies: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We used the funding to reduce the cost to adopt an adult cat despite the fact that there were adorable kittens available. We believe this had dramatic improvements in our adult adoption rates.
When someone expressed interest in a kitten, we'd state that we had a Kia/Petfinder Foundation grant that reduced the cost of adult cat adoptions from $125 to $75. Faced with a choice of a $300 kitten or a $75 adult, adopters often reconsidered their choices and helped the adult cat to find a new home.
We were able to place 40 adults quickly by leveraging the Kia grant. Within 30 days, we'd placed 40 adult cats who might not have been considered otherwise. This grant gave a definite advantage to these loving adults who were being passed over.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Misty was a dilute tortie who was 6 years old. She’d been available for adoption for almost two months with little interest.
When someone called with interest in a kitten who’d already been adopted, we suggested Misty as a great alternative to the kitten and told them about the Kia grant that reduced her adoption fee. The person paused to consider Misty and decided to meet her.
As soon as they met, the deal was sealed! They adopted her and stated that the reason for their change to an adult adoption was due to the reduced-fee adoption rate from the Kia grant.
We are so grateful to Kia and the Petfinder Foundation for providing this grant to help more adult cats to quickly find great adoptive homes. Thank you SO much!
