Journey Home Animal Care Center: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Kia Pet Adoption Grant has been a game-changer for Journey Home Animal Care Center (JHACC) and the community it serves. In a region where many families face financial challenges, this grant has provided a lifeline for both the animals and the people who wish to welcome them into their homes. By covering a portion of our adoption fees, the grant has made adoption more accessible, offering families the chance to find a new furry companion without the worry of excessive costs.

The impact goes beyond financial assistance. The Kia Pet Adoption Grant emphasizes that animals at JHACC are not only affordable but also come fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and ready to integrate into their new homes. This gives adopters peace of mind, knowing they are adopting healthy pets, which reduces the long-term costs of veterinary care and further contributes to successful adoptions.

By removing financial barriers and ensuring animals are well-prepared for adoption, the grant has helped JHACC provide an affordable and compassionate solution for pet seekers while giving animals the chance they deserve to find their forever homes.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

The Kia Pet Adoption Grant played a key role in a heartwarming story that unfolded in June, when Junior, a black mouth cur (first photo), found his forever home. Junior had been one of the longest-term residents at Journey Home Animal Care Center, staying for an incredible 319 days. Despite his long wait, Junior maintained a friendly and energetic spirit, spending most of his time at the shelter playing with other dog friends. However, his perfect match hadn’t yet come along.

Junior’s fortunes changed when he had the opportunity to go into foster care. His foster family provided him with the socialization and training he needed, teaching him good manners and helping him build confidence in new environments. Junior’s foster was also committed to taking him to community events, where more people could meet him and see his wonderful personality firsthand. After months of waiting, Junior finally found his forever home with a man right here in Rifle (second photo).

The reduced adoption fees made possible by the Kia Pet Adoption Grant were a crucial factor in this outcome. They allowed Junior’s adopter, a man who had always wanted a loyal companion but faced financial constraints, to take the leap and provide Junior with a loving home. The grant not only made Junior’s adoption more affordable, but it also meant that Junior was ready to go — vaccinated, neutered, and socialized — offering peace of mind for his new owner.

Junior’s journey from being the shelter’s longest stay to a beloved pet shows how the Kia Pet Adoption Grant helps more than just animals; it strengthens bonds between animals and people, making pet adoption accessible to all and helping create lasting, meaningful connections within the community.
