Companion Pet Rescue & Transport of W TN: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
While we do have several dogs and puppies in foster homes, the majority of our dogs and puppies are either at our kennel facility in Tennessee or our adoption center in Southbury, CT. We try to provide as much socialization for the dogs in our care as possible and enrichment toys are also really important to keep our dogs healthy and happy as they wait to be adopted or moved into foster homes.
The Kong toys we received from the grant are great for the dogs when they are kenneled because the Kongs give the dogs a safe way to occupy themselves, which helps reduce their frustration and stress. We also received some toys that our volunteers can use with our dogs to give them a fun way to provide exercise and socialization. That is a win-win, since it is good for our dogs and encourages our volunteers to spend time with the dogs. The Kong Toy Grant will help us ensure that the dogs and puppies in our care can be as happy and comfortable as possible until they are able to go to their new homes.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Brownie is one of many pups this grant is currently helping. Brownie is 1.5 years old and was adopted from CPR as a puppy and recently returned due to changes in his family’s home.
As you can imagine, this transition can be tough for a dog, and Brownie is an active, energetic guy who loves to be doing something. He gets along great with other dogs, so he has done well at our adoption center, which is a doggy daycare-type setting. The third photo shows Brownie and his friends lounging together.
Having durable, engaging toys has given Brownie and the other adoptable dogs in our care a great enrichment activity that keeps them from getting bored when they are not able to be out for walks and playing with our volunteers and kennel staff.
Brownie is still waiting for a forever home. Meet Brownie here.
