Piedmont Pound Paws, Inc.: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Mathmatically, this grant would have covered 7.14 adoptions, so our goal was eight. The grant made it more attractive to potential adopters who were just looking and thinking but had not consciously decided to adopt. In fact, the adoption locations were pretty low-key and people usually just stopped by to pet our pets but not to adopt. We still held to the same standards for adopter approval, but this grant gave us the edge that many larger rescues seem to always have. We actually adopted out 10 pets. This was huge!

How many pets did this grant help?

The goal was eight but we have had 10 adoptions since the date we received the grant.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Before our adoption event, one of our elderly (human) fosters had been hospitalized and then placed in a nursing home. There were only two of us to take over her foster cats. She also had seven of her own middle- to older-aged cats who also needed to be evaluated and updated on tests, vaccinations, and microchips to meet adoption readiness standards completely. We hoped to adopt out as many of her cats as possible while letting her know they were being cared for.

We had to treat this as one of those “situations” when rescue is needed for a very sensitive emergency. We did get six of her cats adopted, along with the four that were not hers, so all in all, it was a win — and a huge one. Thanks goes to Kia and the Petfinder Foundation for rescuing us from being too full and overwhelmed.
