Ayla's Acres No-Kill Animal Rescue, Inc.: Disaster Response and Recovery Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We had requested funds to rebuild our barn and tack house after they were destroyed by a direct hit from Hurricane Helene. We have been able to restore our tack house and the barn is a work in progress. Eight equines have directly benefited, as the tack house can be used for shelter. We have raised enough funds to begin rebuilding the barn. The covered portion can now contain feed for all of our animals at the sanctuary. This directly impacts eight equines and 60 dogs and cats as well as one sheep, one goat, one goose, and two tortoises.
How many pets did this grant help?
60-70
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
White Cloud (photos 1-3) is an albino horse. He is over 20 years old and came to Ayla’s Acres as an abused animal. Because he is an albino, he must have sun protection during the day and then can go out to pasture in the evening. Because we’ve repaired the tack room, White Cloud now has a place to stay healthy during the day.
Hank (fourth photo) is a 4 1/2-year-old Rhodesian ridgeback mix who had been living at the sanctuary. Hank’s kennel was protected from weather, as it had been placed in the barn. That portion of the barn has been rebuilt and can now house a kennel again, although Hank will not need it as he has found his forever home.
