Abandoned Animal Rescue: Play Pet Beds Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
Our rescue takes in dogs of many ages; some have been living on the street, while some have lost their homes for one reason or another. They also have a variety of health conditions. Living in the rescue is not easy for any of them, so we try our best to make the dogs feel loved. One way we do that is to make sure they are comfortable in their kennels while they adjust to their new life. The soft kennel beds we received gave comfort to the older dogs waiting to be adopted, and when they were adopted, the beds went home with them, making it easier for them to adjust to their forever homes.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Gracie, an older pup who was with the rescue for a few months, had stiffness in her hind quarters and found it uncomfortable to be in the kennel without a lot of padding. When we received the beds, she was given one and it, together with her blanket, immediately made her more comfortable. The weather was cold, and the extra insulation was obviously cozy.
Gracie was found on Oct. 26, 2024, on a street in Houston. Her rescuer held on to her for a while but could not keep her. Gracie entered the rescue on Dec. 7, 2024. She was one of my favorites, a sweet and easy-going lady ready to share her love! Gracie enjoyed her daily walks and was always friendly to everyone she met.
On Feb. 2, 2025, Gracie met her adopter, who cried with joy when he met her. She will be his loyal companion and he will give her lots of love and attention.
