Humane Society of South Brevard: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant has provided more enrichments toys for our cats, specifically our kittens. Our wand toys had been dying slow miserable deaths, the product of too much fun. This grant also helped purchase enrichment toys for a young adult cat named Ozzy (second photo). He's a very rambunctious guy and we are searching for the right home for him. He's more dog than lap cat. On his taxes, he lists his profession as acro-cat. He's got hops for sure! He really likes the kick toys, namely the Pickle Kicker by Cat Stages.

How many pets did this grant help?

150

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Our oldest resident cat, Agnus (first photo), hates other cats and, while she enjoys affection, she never played with toys while she was at the shelter. One of the volunteers gave her a Pickle Kicker (our shelter manager purchased more than one), and she immediately knew what to do with it.

It soon became her emotional support pickle, providing her with a stimulus other than hissing and growling at other cats who climbed on her kennel. To date, Agnus has not been adopted, but she is enjoying life in a foster home, accompanied by her emotional support pickle kicker.

Meet Agnus here.
