Humane Society of Camden County: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Kia adoption-fee reduction grant of $1,000 played a crucial role in helping 20 pets find their forever homes. These animals were either long-time residents at the shelter or had been returned from previous adoptions.

The grant provided a significant reduction in adoption fees, making it more affordable for potential adopters to bring these pets into their families. By lowering the financial barrier, the grant allowed more individuals and families to consider adopting these deserving animals.

As a result, 14 dogs and six cats were able to find loving homes where they can receive the care, attention, and love they deserve. This grant not only helped these animals find their forever homes, but also created space in the shelter for other animals in need. The impact of this grant goes beyond the immediate adoption of these pets, as it also contributes to the overall welfare of animals within the community.

The Petfinder Foundation Kia Pet Adoption Grant was the reason Elliot, a long-term resident, found his forever family (first photo).

Elliot had been waiting patiently for 131 days, which translates to roughly 4.5 months or 18 weeks. His journey to find a loving home was finally realized when a couple decided to adopt him on their anniversary. The couple had gone through the healing process after losing their previous dog and felt ready to open their hearts to another furry companion. As Elliot walked out of the shelter with his tail wagging, there wasn’t a dry eye in the lobby.

During his time at the shelter, Elliot served as one of the doggie playgroup tester dogs, assessing the friendliness of incoming dogs. He got along well with everyone and thrived when playing outside with his friends.

However, kennel confinement was hard and stressful for Elliot, so our volunteers and staff had to go the extra mile to provide him with all the enrichment and socialization he needed.

Thanks to the grant, Elliot found a forever family who recognized his unique qualities and were willing to provide him with the love and care he deserved. This grant not only changed Elliot’s life, but also brought immense joy and fulfillment to the couple who adopted him.
