A little over a year ago, Nancy was found as a stray in North Carolina and brought to a high[-intake] shelter at a year old. She spent several months at the shelter and then, due to overcrowding, she was sent to a local boarding facility.
At the end of January, a wonderful North Carolina foster family took her out of the kennel and brought her to their home, where she finally got to see what it was like to live with a roof over her head and with a family (and, of course, other dogs).
At the end of March, Nancy was part of our rescue mission. She was up for adoption for over eight months. Nancy was with a wonderful family who also had other dogs. She blossomed and thrived. We never did quite understand why she never got adopted.
Several months ago, the foster family went on vacation and Nancy went to a foster home with Brian and his wife Trisha for the week.
Trisha warned Brian that Nancy could be a little shy at first. Well, that wasn’t the case. She ran across the room, jumped onto the couch and was on Brian’s lap instantly.
As the weeks went by, Trisha and Brian often spoke of adopting her if no one else came along. The affection and the attraction Nancy had toward Brian was unbelievable. Well, on Brian’s 50th birthday I showed up at the door. He was wondering why I was there when along came Nancy. This reunion had been pre-arranged with Trisha.
Brian had no idea his birthday present was going to be the adoption of Nancy! He was totally surprised and Nancy was beyond thrilled to be back in the home with Brian, the family, and all their furry companions.
Nancy waited over a year for a place to call home. Who doesn’t like happy endings?
