PAWS Atlanta: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Kia Pet Adoption Grant provided crucial support to PAWS Atlanta, enabling the adoption of 10 dogs and 21 cats during a challenging time when adoption rates, particularly for larger dogs, have been in decline. This funding allowed PAWS Atlanta to reduce or waive adoption fees, making it easier for families to welcome a new pet. The grant also supported targeted outreach efforts and resources to spotlight big dogs and long-term residents, helping them find loving homes. Thanks to Kia's generosity, these 31 animals now have a second chance at life with caring families.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Mikey G came to us as a puppy on Sept. 9, 2023, and was soon diagnosed with a heart condition. He went into foster with Christa, PAWS’ very own foster coordinator (first photo), who ended up taking him to see a specialist and he had a very successful heart surgery. The doctor felt like it was likely he would have a regular life afterwards, but he still gets his heart checked regularly just to be sure.

After his surgery, Mikey G moved into another foster home for several months and they absolutely loved him. Then during the Kia Adoption Event, the most fantastic adopters, who were not concerned about his heart condition, submitted an application for Mikey G. Up until then, his medical history really held him back from finding a home.

Since Mikey G found his forever family, we get regular updates from his people about how much they love him and how he is doing fantastic in their home with their family and their other dogs.
