Humane Society of Northeast Georgia: Dog Field Trip/Short-Term Fostering Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant has enabled us to acquire vital gadgets necessary for the dogs' excursions. Each week, we typically take two to three different dogs on field trips to various locations such as parks, hiking trails, video-shoot venues, events, and even pet-friendly bars. Thanks to the funding from the Petfinder Foundation, we have all the essential supplies needed for their foster care.
The dogs in our care who go on a field trip receive a backpack containing their supplies. The supplies consist of a backpack with a small, basic first-aid kit, collapsible water and food bowls, treats, a water bottle, hand sanitizer, potty bags, and a small information card, if needed.
Since we received this funding, we have had 42 dogs go on their ExPawdition. With this funding, we are excited to see our rescuers spend time outside their kennels, receive attention, and have the chance to engage their minds through enjoyable activities.
How many pets did this grant help?
100-150 pets
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Benny (first photo), one of our handsome shepherds, went on an ExPAWdition on May 3 with a lovely couple who had just recently lost their shepherd (whom they’d adopted from here). They just wanted to see how he’d do outside of the shelter and spend some time with him, so they took him to the park and liked him. So as of now, they are fostering him, with the potential for adoption (second photo)!
Another aspect of the outing involves the marketing and development team, who conduct video shoots and host brand-awareness events. These occasions also provide opportunities for dog adoptions. To date, we have facilitated seven adoptions through our brand-awareness events this calendar year.
