Heart of Idaho Animal Sanctuary: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
Our dogs, particularly the large ones, like Kong toys. They keep them busy and entertained and reduce stress when the dogs are in their kennels. Our personnel like them because they are so sturdy and we don't need to worry that they will get chewed up and ingested by the dogs.
The toys sometimes get buried or sent home with the dogs as a transitional item to their adoptive homes. Because of budget constraints, it is difficult for us to replace them. Kong's willingness to donate them is a great help to us and our animals.

Two of our dogs greatly enjoyed their new Kong toys. Kirby, a young American Bulldog mix (first three photos), who is the most wonderful dog, has been with us for some time.
She was brought to us because she chases livestock, which is a concern in rural areas like ours. She has had several failed adoptions: one because the people moved to a home that did not allow pets and one because the owner was hospitalized for a long period, leaving Kirby abandoned in the house.
Kirby now functions as our office dog and greeter. She is available only to the perfect adopter. She is a big fan of Kongs, particularly when filled with peanut butter.
Chloe, a German shepherd mix (fourth photo), came from another shelter and had a tough time getting adopted because she didn’t get along with other dogs. She was with us for a year and so keeping her busy was important. She has since found a good home.
