Bowie Citizens for Local Animal Welfare, Inc.: Emergency Medical Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant allowed us to pay for the extensive dental work that sweet Cherrie needed. Because we received the funds to pay for this expensive treatment, Bowie CLAW was able to care for several other cats and kittens that we would likely have had to turn away otherwise. Best of all, by getting the care she needed, this wonderful cat was able to find her permanent home and both the adopter and cat are over the moon.
How many pets did this grant help?
One directly, but several others by freeing up funds that can be used for other vet visits, so as many as six cats.
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Cherrie came to us as a stray, found trying to enter someone’s home. The finder could not keep her, so turned her over to Bowie CLAW.
Upon admission, this lovely cat would cry while eating, but was starving, so she ate. It was heartbreaking to hear her. X-rays determined that she not only had an infection, but had severe dental problems.
After treatment including extractions and cleaning, Cherrie was able to eat well. She gained weight and was recently adopted at our big Kitty Hall adoption event with the City of Bowie.
It was a match made in heaven, likely with some scheming by a kitty now over the rainbow bridge. Sidney and her family had lost their longtime friend, Jack, just a few weeks prior to the adoption event where Cherrie was able to make a grand entrance. There was an instant connection between adopter and cat and a very happy ending for this once hurt and homeless cat, now named Mia. She found her new family, and a grieving young lady now has a new best friend.
