Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This was such a wonderful grant. We are able to utilize all of the KONG toys donated to us for all of the dogs we have in our adoptable-dog kennels while they are waiting for their new homes. These toys provide mental stimulation while offering a treat of peanut butter as a reward for being well-behaved in the kennel. Because the toys will be reused over and over again, we will be able to utilize them for so many dogs we get through our doors as strays.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Montana, a 6-year-old brown pit bull mix, has been at the shelter for over 130 days was feeling a bit depressed after being with us for so long.

She is such a sweet, gentle girl who only aims to please and wants all the snuggles and the pets. The grant has helped dogs like her take a moment out of stressful kennel life and enjoy something pleasant and rewarding. Montana looks forward to her KONG every single day. It also provides happiness to our staff, who get to see her wag her tail as she enjoys it.

These types of toys truly make an impact on dogs in a kenneled environment. We are so appreciative of this grant and all it is doing to help so many stressed-out dogs. Montana is still waiting to be adopted.

You can meet Montana here.
