Animal Aid of Branch County: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This $1,000 grant allowed Animal Aid of Branch County/AABC to waive the adoption fees on four deserving dogs to four deserving families. We held two adoption events in June (versus our normal once-monthly event) to find the right forever homes for these animals. We did not tell the potential adopters that the fee would be waived until we knew it was the perfect match. These adopters were overwhelmed, grateful, and full of happy tears. Thank you for allowing us to make that happen!

How many pets did this grant help?

Four

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

The first waived-fee adoption was Odie, a Chihuahua mix, who had been adopted and returned, but then found his forever home with a woman who had overcome a brain tumor and several other medical issues looking for an emotional-support dog.

The second waived-fee adoption was Woody, a Lab mix, who had lost his home due to his owners splitting up. The family who adopted him are volunteers with our local low-cost spay/neuter program and had been looking for the right fit for their family that includes kids for several months. They were immediately drawn to gentle Woody.

The third waived-fee adoption was Lucy, a sweet senior beagle found as a stray, featured on our Facebook post about this grant, who was adopted by a couple who own a farm and love beagles. They had recently lost their beloved beagle to bladder cancer and knew when they saw Lucy’s profile that she was meant for them.

Our final waived-fee adoption was Ooki, a young terrier mix. A senior couple had visited prior adoption events looking for a small dog and explaining their desire to adopt after several years without a dog. Ooki was just the right size and personality for them. Love at first sight! They tell us that Ooki has brightened their days and inspires them to go for daily walks with her.

Due to the ages of these adopters, we confirmed that their daughter, who loves Ooki too, has committed to taking ownership of her when the need arises.

A happy ending for all these dogs thanks to the Kia Pet Adoption Grant!
