Grant County Humane Society: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant allowed us to provide a 50% reduced cat and dog adoption fee for animals who had been in our care over 45 days. We were able to adopt 17 cats and eight dogs to their forever homes, for a total of 25 adoptions with the grant.

Due to illness in our shelter during during the grant period, we were not able to adopt some animals out during the first three-month period. As a result, the grant was extended an additional three months by the Petfinder foundation. With this extension, after animals were healthy, we were able to adopt them out.

This grant helped us get adopted some hard-to-adopt animals who had been at the shelter for more than 45 days. Of the 25 animals adopted through this grant, five had spent at least a year in our care at the shelter.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Lucy spent more than 1,000 days at the Grant County Humane Society before she found her forever home. The KIA Petfinder Foundation grant allowed us to advertise Lucy with a reduced adoption fee.

Lucy is doing great in her new home! She gets to go for walks daily, which is her favorite. She enjoys the water down by the river. When Lucy went to her forever home, she got a brand new bed, collar, and a bunch of toys!

She is definitely her momma’s Velcro dog and wants to be by her all the time. Lucy has a brother (cat) and she just wants to play with him. Lucy is living her BEST life! This is why we do what we do: Seeing animals get to their forever homes and live their best lives makes it all worth it for us and the animals!
