Trombone was brought in as a stray to a very rural shelter in Missouri. There is only one shelter in the immediate area, which would mean it should be easy for an owner to find their dog if it had gotten out of the yard or wandered off. No one came for Trombone.

The shelter has very limited resources and very few adoptions because of its location, so Trombone became “urgent” and was in danger of euthanasia. The animal control officer for the rural shelter reached out to us and begged for help since Trombone is such a great dog; she just couldn’t stand the thought of this being the end of the line for him.

KCPAWS was able to pull Trombone from the shelter and get him to a foster home we have in the area, where he bloomed and shook off the trauma of being on his own and then dealing with the loud, chaotic life in the shelter.

Once Trombone was ready for his new home and had finished all of his vetting, he was transported to KCPAWS and into another wonderful foster home. His adoption took some time, not because he wasn’t a perfect gentleman, but because he was a bit larger than most beagles and he was often overlooked at our adoption events, or those who did apply for him thought he was too big for what they were looking for.

We were able to find a wonderful adopter for Trombone who also had a slightly bigger beagle at home, and now Trombone has found his happily ever after.
