KC Pet Project: Play Group Training Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant helped dogs in our care by allowing our Manager of Behavior and Enrichment to learn protocols for reactivity and wariness of strangers, as well as how to use a slat mill/spring pole to help satiate dogs in our care. We how have a spring pole and two slat mills thanks to two donors who provided them. The work that these dogs are doing with this enrichment is helping them in remarkable ways by providing an outlet for their energy and stress while in our shelter.
How many pets did this grant help?
8,400
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Lamar came into our care through Animal Services. While in our care, Lamar displayed wariness of strangers and reactivity and had a horrible quality of life in his kennel.
Lamar was muzzle-conditioned and taught place, and we worked him on the slat mill and he learned spring pole.
Sadly, Lamar did not have a happy ending and was not adopted. But we were able to provide him with an increased quality of life and had him equipped with safety measures that would have helped an adopter be successful with him.
