Southern Pines Animal Shelter: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant came at the perfect time, as summer is when our shelter population is at its highest. With support from the Kia Pet Adoption Grant, we were able to waive adoption fees for both cats and dogs at our shelter, removing financial barriers for families and making it easier for pets to find loving homes. As a result, adoptions increased significantly during the summer months, helping us reduce overcrowding and open up space for more animals in need of care and a second chance. We completed more adoptions in July than we have in any month since the summer of 2019.

One wonderful example of how this grant made a difference is Brother Bambi. He was our longest resident when the Kia Pet Adoption Grant-funded fee-waived event began. Bambi had been with us since May 23 and, despite his sweet personality, love of fetch, and ability to follow commands like “sit,” he was consistently overlooked by adopters.

Thanks to the generous support of the Kia Pet Adoption Grant and the marketing around the event, Bambi’s story was featured on our Facebook page and, just days later, he found his perfect match. This grant helped remove barriers for his adopter and helped Bambi and many others connect with the loving families they had been waiting for.
