Wagon Tails Farm Rescue: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant made a meaningful impact on the cats and kittens in our care. It provided enrichment items like bedding and toys, which not only offered comfort but also stimulated mental development — especially crucial for growing kittens. These resources played a key role in helping our more timid or undersocialized cats decompress, build trust with their fosters, and adjust to life off the streets. Thanks to this support, many of our felines took important steps toward finding their forever homes.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Thanks to the support of this grant, we were able to help a very special kitten named Prince Amelio. Found alone and frightened under a shed, Amelio had likely been born on the streets and had little to no human contact. He was underweight, skittish, and unsure of the world around him.

With the help of cozy bedding and stimulating toys funded by the grant, his foster home became a safe haven. The plush bedding gave him warmth and comfort, while the toys helped him develop his coordination and encouraged healthy brain stimulation.

At first, Amelio would hide in corners and watch from afar. But his foster used the toys to build trust, engaging him in gentle play and slowly encouraging interaction. Day by day, Prince Amelio began to emerge from his shell, showing curiosity, confidence, and even a bit of royal sass.

Today, Prince Amelio is playful, affectionate, and no longer afraid of the world around him. The grant didn’t just help provide supplies — it helped transform a scared kitten into a confident, adoptable prince.

Meet Prince Amelio here.
