Mercy Fund Animal Rescue, Inc.: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant award helped Mercy offset adoption fees and encourage rescue and adoption throughout our community at each adoption event. This generous grant supported 17 cats and 18 dogs get adopted – meaning it helped a total of 35 animals land in safe, loving, and forever homes.

At each of the adoption events, Mercy communicated with potential adoption families that we had a grant from the Petfinder Foundation and Kia that could help offset the cost of adoption of cats and dogs. In many cases, this helped the individuals make the decision to adopt given the financial challenges many people face. We promoted this grant detail on our Facebook page when the grant was awarded and continued to share the details as we held adoption events.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Hugo (first photo) was a Lab-Great Dane mix puppy in Mercy’s foster network. He was adopted on Oct. 19, 2024.

Enoki (second photo) was a stray cat whom Mercy brought into foster care. Enoki was adopted on Aug. 10 into a family where he now has a fur sibling in a happy home.

Roscoe (third photo) is an older guy – a 7-year-old Chihuahua. It took some time, but Roscoe’s foster mom got him to a healthy place and Mercy worked to find him the perfect home. He was adopted on Sept. 7 and his new mom says he never leaves her side and has two pup siblings. The photo shows Roscoe (now named Rock) snuggling under a blanket in his new home.

Maverick (fourth photo) was in a roaming pack of several dogs found in McDowell County. Mercy was able to bring the dogs into our care and get them brought to health and put up for adoption. Maverick was adopted on Sept. 1 and has landed in a young family with two young human siblings.

Gabe (fifth photo) was an abandoned cat found in Marion. Mercy took Gabe in for care and, once he was healthy, made him available for adoption at a Brews and Blessings adoption event. Gabe was adopted on Aug. 17 and joined an existing feline sibling in his new home.

Maisy (sixth photo) was a surrendered pup in need of a new home. She was cleaned up and cared for when Mercy took her in and prepared her for adoption. She was adopted on Sept. 2 and was lucky enough to have a family come all the way from Maryland adopt her!

Daisy (seventh photo) is a dog who was loose and wandering around McDowell County when Mercy was able to pull her into our network. She was given care and made available for adoption. Daisy was adopted on Oct. 18 into a family and will join another pup sibling.

Gisela (eighth photo) came to Mercy as a stray with her beautiful brindle coat. She was adopted on Sept. 21 by a couple and now has a pup as her playful sibling.
