City of Santa Rosa Animal Control: Dog Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The 2025 Dog Enrichment Grant enabled us to construct a safe outdoor play area for our dogs right next to our building. We previously had an area across the street that was not secure and had no shade, and it was hard for us to safely get dogs to that area. Now, our dogs have a safe place to play with each other, socialize, sniff, and get fresh air and sun. We do different play groups as well as individual time, depending on the dog's demeanor. We struggle with extreme heat in the summertime, so going on daily walks is hard as we are surrounded by road and cement. The play area is perfect as we have shade, water, and grass that will help keep the dogs nice and cool while they exercise.
How many pets did this grant help?
60-70
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
We currently have a feral dog in our custody whom we are going to try and rehab. The outdoor play area will be crucial in helping us to rehab him. Once we get him used to wearing a leash, we will take him out to the play area to work on leash-walking and trust. We have a community member that would like to adopt him. Once we can work with him and get him fully vetted, she will be able to adopt him.
