Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society: Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant has improved the general well-being of our shelter dogs. New toys, balls, and outdoor play equipment for our agility course have prevented boredom, reduced stress, and helped to curb behaviors such as excessive barking or chewing. All of this has helped 68 dogs find their homes since we received this grant award in March.

How many pets did this grant help?

Since we received the grant in March, 68 dogs have found their forever homes. We currently have 56 dogs in our care who are still benefiting from the toys and enrichment items purchased.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

After 347 days in our care, sweet shelter dog Myrtle found her forever family! Watching her leave with a heart full of love and a future full of cuddles was a moment we’ll never forget.

As a longer-stay shelter dog, Myrtle received lots of enrichment time with our staff members and volunteers. She truly enjoyed all the new enrichment items, which we know helped her meet her perfect match!
