Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation: Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We were able to purchase pools, a misting system, and some outdoor shade. This allows our dogs to enjoy outdoor enrichment for a much larger part of the day during our hot, dry summers and increases the amount of playtime, walks, and obedience work for all of our canine residents. We are very grateful to have these items and will enjoy them to the fullest this coming summer once the weather warms up again.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

June Bug came to us with cerebellar hypoplasia. This causes her to lose her balance and she is extremely susceptible to heat due to her coloring and breed (she is a bull-terrier mix with almost no pigment).

We were struggling to allow June Bug to receive sufficient enrichment, as she is a high-energy dog, but we discovered that she loved the water and would lounge in the pools for as long as she was allowed!

This reduced June Bug’s stress to the point that she was able to be adopted into a loving home with three other dogs (third photo). A true happy ending!
