Laramie Peak Humane Society: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Kong toys serve as an effective means of keeping dogs engaged as they work to extract the treats inside. We fill the Kongs with wet food and freeze them, which not only prolongs the dogs’ interaction with this brain enrichment toy, but also slows down their eating pace. This approach can be particularly beneficial for undernourished dogs, allowing them more time to digest the wet food.

How many pets did this grant help?

Around 150 dogs

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Dakota Jane, a 4.5-year-old Staffordshire terrier, spent approximately 280 days in the shelter. During her stay, she frequently received a Kong toy for mental stimulation, particularly on cold or inclement-weather days when outdoor play and walks were not feasible. These toys were instrumental in alleviating Dakota Jane’s cabin fever while she resided in her kennel. She was adopted on Dec. 21, 2024, just in time for the Christmas festivities.
