KittyKind, Inc.: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

KittyKind is a small, special-needs cat-rescue group in New York City. The Petfinder Foundation Emergency Medical Grant helped KittyKind pay for Tussy’s lifesaving treatment for the deadly virus feline infectious peritonitis.

Because Tussy is now healthy, Tussy’s foster parents, who administered all of her medications. have adopted her. Tussy is safe from the streets and from her deadly disease. Additionally, KittyKind was able to concentrate on fundraising for other special-needs rescues, including cats who needed a jaw rewired, an emergency dental, and repair of a hernia. These cats, too, were subsequently adopted. KittyKind can define itself as a special-needs rescue because of the special intervention of organizations such as the Petfinder Foundation.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Tussy, a young female cat whom KittyKind rescued, has survived two traumas: being homeless and then contracting a deadly disease, feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), a severe and often fatal viral disease in cats caused by a mutated form of the feline coronavirus (FCoV).

Shortly after Tussy’s rescue from a vacant lot in the spring of 2025, her abdomen kept swelling. A vet diagnosis in August 2025 confirmed that she had FIP. To recover, she needed three months of anti-viral medication, blood tests every couple of weeks, an ultrasound, and frequent vet re-checks. The cost was approximately $5,000.

The Petfinder Foundation generously awarded KittyKind an Emergency Medical Grant for her medications. After months of treatment, Tussy is now home, and she is healthy. She thanks her dedicated foster parents, the humans who donated to her GoFundMe page, and the generosity of the Petfinder Foundation. It’s as if a third miracle happened, just in time for Christmas.
