Footbridge Foundation: Disaster Response and Recovery Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

When catastrophic flooding struck the Hill Country in July, our team immediately mobilized to support our partners in Kerr County and the surrounding region. The Petfinder Foundation Disaster Grant allowed us to respond swiftly and replenish more than $5,000 in critical supplies (including microchip scanners, parvo tests, core vaccines, flea/tick and heartworm prevention, food, litter, and medical supplies) that were distributed directly to shelters and rescues in need.

While we were able to take 28 animals directly into our own care during these flood-response efforts, the supplies funded through this grant reached far beyond our immediate capacity, impacting countless animals that had been displaced and were in need of safe shelter and medical support. These resources helped prevent disease, stabilize operations for overwhelmed shelters, and sustain lifesaving care for animals affected by the disaster.

Beyond meeting urgent needs, this support reinforced the strength of collaboration among regional partners and ensured that Footbridge Foundation could remain a dependable resource in times of crisis. Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation’s generosity, we were able to protect animal health, relieve pressure on local shelters, and help our community recover more quickly from this devastating event.

Among the many animals impacted by the Hill Country floods was a tiny kitten named Chickadee. He and his two littermates were rescued during our flood-response efforts after being found in poor condition, struggling with chronic eye issues, and, later, diagnosed with ringworm. Chickadee also battled ongoing gastrointestinal troubles that required careful monitoring and specialized care.

Thanks to the resources provided through the Petfinder Foundation Disaster Grant, we were able to supply the necessary medical treatments, food, and foster care support these fragile kittens needed to recover. They spent several weeks healing in a loving foster home where they received daily medication, baths, and lots of love.

All three kittens, including Chickadee, made a full recovery and were joyfully adopted into forever homes. Their story is a wonderful reminder of how rapid disaster response and community collaboration can transform hardship into hope, one life at a time.
