Greece Residents Assisting Stray Pets: Emergency Medical Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
GRASP is entirely funded by donations. Often, our adoption fees do not cover all the costs of rescuing a pet. A large emergency vet bill can limit GRASP's ability to rescue more animals. Thank you to the Petfinder Foundation for helping to cover some of our emergency expenses for pregnant cat Summer Rain.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Summer Rain was found on the streets of Rochester, NY. She was extremely emaciated, her fur was dirty and matted, and she was pregnant.
She was rushed to Buffalo Emergency Animal Hospital and admitted to their ICU. Summer Rain’s symptoms included lethargy, an unwillingness to eat or drink, a fever, and an upper-respiratory infection. She was also vomiting a brown substance that the vet believed was mud, which was the only food she could find while living on the streets.
Summer Rain received IV fluids and antibiotics and underwent a full bloodwork panel, x-rays, an ultrasound, and a catheterization. Luckily, no blockages were found in her intestines, her heart sounds were good, and no organ failure was detected. By some miracle, her babies were still alive. Summer Rain had proven to be a fighter.
Summer Rain was stabilized and went to a foster home under GRASP’s care. GRASP rescue spent $5,000 towards her care.
We credit the Petfinder Foundation with helping GRASP fund Summer Rain’s care. Summer Rain is a true success story and exemplifies why we don’t give up on an animal. Not long after her trip to Buffalo, Summer Rain gave birth to three healthy kittens. Summer Rain and her kittens are doing well in a foster home and will be available for adoption in the near future.
A large vet bill like Summer Rain’s can often limit GRASP’s ability to rescue more animals. Thank you to the Petfinder Foundation for helping to fund emergencies such as this one.
