Potsdam Humane Society: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The Kong toys we received greatly expanded our options for in-kennel and play-yard enrichment. With the toys we received, we were able to rotate in-kennel toys and keep interest in toys high.
The Kong toys we fill with peanut butter give our dogs something to focus on and figure out (how to get every last bit of peanut butter out of there!) while they're in their kennels. The Kong Flyers were a great addition to our play-yard activities: Many dogs love them and they are tough enough to stand a lot of use. And the toys have helped keep our longest-stay dog occupied while she visits the reception desk: She's super social with people, so the extra time with people really benefits her.
How many pets did this grant help?
The Kong toys have helped more than 30 dogs so far, and we expect them to benefit about 50 more over the course of the year.
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Nova is our long-stay, beautiful pitty mix who just hasn’t found the right match for her needs.
Selective with dogs, she is very social with people: She’s our go-to-dog when we need a dog who won’t mind lots of people in the room. Her motto is “Bring them on!”
We love having her in our reception office where we’ll get more eyes on her, but like any smart dog, she’ll get bored (and demanding of attention) if there’s nothing to do. A Kong toy is the perfect solution: She can be occupied with the KONG toy in the reception office for really long stretches. It’s win-win-win: She gets to be around people, the people get to do their work, and more people see what a great addition to a household she’d make.
