The Road Home Animal Project: Emergency Medical Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The grant helped pay for the emergency care provided to save the life of a pregnant dog who had critical lab work and required an emergency c-section to save her life.
Jillie was a 5-year-old owner surrender whom we scheduled for a spay. The foster noted changes and asked the vet to check her the morning of the spay. X-rays revealed that she was pregnant.
We had many texts with the vet and ultimately Jillie was admitted to the hospital. Due to critical labs, an emergency C-section was needed to save her life. She was hospitalized for four days for critical kidney, glucose, and calcium levels and lack of appetite.

This grant helped with the emergency care of a dog who was surrendered and was found to be pregnant. She had life-threatening, critical lab work and was hospitalized; ultimately she needed an emergency c-section. Unfortunately, because her lab work was critical, all her pups passed within a couple days.
However, mama Jillie’s life was saved and she has found her loving, forever home because the Emergency Medical Grant from the Petfinder Foundation made it possible.
