Fixin Ferals TNR and Rescue: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Petfinder Foundation grant greatly improved the quality of life for our special-needs cats, long-term residents, and cats awaiting adoption. The toys, scratchers, and cat trees provided important enrichment that reduced stress, encouraged exercise, and allowed cats to express natural behaviors like climbing and scratching.

These items helped our adoptable cats stay happier, more confident, and better socialized, making them more appealing to potential adopters. The grant also allowed us to provide this enrichment without using funds needed for medical care and other critical expenses, helping us better serve the cats in our care. We are very grateful for this support and the positive impact it has had on our rescue.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

One of the cats who benefited most from this grant is Casper (first photo), a paralyzed cat who has been in our care for over two years. Because of his mobility challenges, finding enrichment that he can easily enjoy is especially important.

Among the items purchased through the Petfinder Foundation grant was a carpeted scratcher that quickly became Casper’s favorite. He loves pulling himself through it, exploring, and playing in a way that encourages movement and keeps him engaged. Watching him confidently navigate the carpet and enjoy himself has been a wonderful reminder of how meaningful simple enrichment can be for special-needs cats.

Casper is still waiting for his forever home, but thanks to the support of this grant, he is able to enjoy a higher quality of life while he remains in our care. The toys, scratchers, and cat trees purchased through this grant provide comfort, stimulation, and happiness to cats like Casper every day.

Meet Casper here.
