Mutt Misfits Society: Emergency Medical Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This Emergency Medical Grant provided critical support during a time of urgent need. Like many rescues, we often face unexpected and costly emergency veterinary bills. This grant helped ensure that one of our long-term dogs, Fitz, received the life-changing care he needed.
Fitz has been with us since he was just 5 weeks old after suffering an injury. Recently, he developed a painful growth on his toe that didn’t respond to treatment and rapidly worsened. Thanks to this grant, Fitz was able to undergo a toe amputation and biopsy to relieve his discomfort and determine the cause.
We’re thrilled to report that Fitz recovered beautifully — he's now back to running through his favorite water sprinklers and enjoying life just as he did before. Even better, the biopsy results came back benign. Fitz is now healthy, happy, and officially back on the adoptable list, ready to find his forever home.
This grant made a real difference — not just in covering the cost of care, but in giving a deserving dog a *third* chance at a pain-free and joyful life. Thank you.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Fitz is a wonderful example of how this Emergency Medical Grant directly impacted the life of a pet, giving him not just a second chance, but a third. He came to us at just 5 weeks old after surviving a traumatic attack by a much larger dog, which left him with a skull fracture. With dedicated medical care and time, Fitz made a full recovery and spent the last three years growing into a happy, playful, adventurous guy who was just waiting for his forever family to find him.
Recently, Fitz developed a painful growth on his toe that quickly progressed, impacted his ability to enjoy his normal activities, and was at risk of being cancerous. Thanks to this grant, we were able to provide the urgent care he needed, including a toe amputation and biopsy. We’re pleased to share that the biopsy results were benign and Fitz recovered exceptionally well. Today, he is once again able to run, play, and splash in the water — his favorite pastime — without any pain, just fun!
Fitz has spent his entire life in foster care, and this grant not only helped relieve his pain but gave him the opportunity to be healthy, active, and, once again, ready for adoption.
At the time of this report, Fitz has not yet been adopted, but we are hopeful that his forever family is just around the corner!
