The Animal Guardian Society: Purina Canada Happy Paws & Hearts Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Many of our dogs come from puppy mills and have never seen a vet. Most are approximately 4-5 years old and have only ever been used for breeding and so require extensive dental work that is very costly. With the funds received from this grant, we were able to do a full dental procedure and extraction for two dogs who came to us from a puppy-mill situation. They have now had their dental work done as well as spay procedures so they will never be in this situation again.

In addition, we were able to provide spay/neuter to seven dogs who came to us from northern Ontario.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

On a Friday afternoon, we welcomed Annie to TAGS. She was surrendered by a puppy mill along with two other female cocker spaniels who found placement with other rescues. The mill no longer had use for them because they “were not producing enough puppies.”

She was a little nervous when she arrived, which was expected. Everything was new for her. She had never been in a home before, so she started to check things out but didn’t venture too far from her foster.

Annie began doing well and proved to be the sweetest girl who quickly stole the hearts of everyone she met. She was adopted in September 2025 and has now found her forever home with a loving family.
