Lycoming County SPCA: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We take in hundreds of animals throughout the year, and many of them come through our humane officer due to suspected abuse or neglect. Because of the environment in which they lived, many of them require a planned enrichment program to enhance their mental focus and behavior. Since we take in a large number of animals, we go through a lot of supplies and toys. Receiving these supplies ensures our animals continue receiving the enrichment and investment they need, even as toys are worn out and need replacement.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

One of the animals who has benefited from the Kongs we received is Fog (first photo). Fog is energetic with excitement when he first gets out of the kennel. He loves romping around in the fenced-in yard and loves playing with his favorite toy, an egg-shaped Jolly ball.

He likes to go for walks on trails where he can sniff and occasionally graze on grass. He is very smart and a master at solving puzzles. The Kong toys keep him engaged during enrichment time and enable him to stay at the top of his game.

At this time, Fog has not been adopted, but our enrichment program ensures he remains engaging and adoptable. You can meet Fog here.
