Darlington County Humane Society: Emergency Medical Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The Petfinder Foundation Emergency Medical Grant allowed us to proceed with FHO surgery for teen pup Parker. We haven't seen many potential adopters choose a shelter animal already known to need an expensive surgery. The surgery definitely increases the likelihood of Parker being adopted after recovery. We're grateful for the Petfinder Foundation's support!

Parker was diagnosed in late October 2024 as needing femoral head ostectomy (FHO) surgery on both sides. After a generous donor provided the needed $2,000 medical fee, Parker had successful surgery on his right side in January 2025 and recovered in the home of an experienced foster.
He was ready for surgery on his left side in early summer 2025. We raised part of the needed funds and received a Petfinder Foundation Emergency Medical Grant that allowed Parker to get his second surgery on Aug. 26, 2025.
He’s progressed nicely in the past five weeks and is expected to be ready for adoption in about three more weeks.
