Etosha Rescue & Adoption Center: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Ladybug was found last year (2024) with her right paw caught in a wire snare trap. After being rescued and turned over to Etosha, she underwent emergency surgery to stabilize her and assess the damage to her leg and paw. It was determined that, without another expensive surgery, she would lose her paw and a significant part of her leg. This would affect not only her mobility, but also her chances of adoption. Pets with missing limbs tend to wait for adoption three times longer than those without missing limbs, if they are adopted at all. Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation Emergency Medical Grant, we were able to proceed with the surgery and save Ladybug's paw.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Ladybug is a Siberian husky who came to Etosha after being rescued from a wire snare trap in 2024. Despite the hardships she had gone through, her cheery demeaner was not diminished. Even before the surgeries to save her paw, Ladybug went into every day and situation with a boundless enthusiasm that was infectious.

Now that she has regained much of the mobility in her paw and leg, she uses that enthusiasm to trot around the yard and play with her other, smaller dog friends. She may not be as fast as she was before her injury, but she is considerably more nimble than she would be if she had lost her paw.

Ladybug spends her days at Etosha Rescue playing with her friends and awaiting a loving forever home.
