Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

In August, an animal control officer found Hugo, a 7-month-old pup, tethered outside in the severe heat. By the time he arrived at our partner clinic, his temperature was already reaching 107. At the time, we knew his prognosis was 50/50 and we wanted to give him the chance he deserved.

Hugo's journey was a rollercoaster. The funds from the Petfinder Foundation helped Hugo completely heal and get him to his HOME. He is completely adored by his new family.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

On the day Hugo was tethered outside for five hours, the temperature rose to 106 degrees. When Animal Control found Hugo, he was in severe heat stroke. He had a temperature of 107 when he arrived at the emergency clinic.

The veterinarian at the clinic gave Hugo a 50/50 chance of survival and, after some very difficult conversations, the shelter chose to give him a chance. After a night of extensive care, his vitals were in a much better place.

He did great in his foster home, recovering slowly but surely, while learning lots of manners and basking in the life of a loving home. He went for walks, snuck in all the snuggles he could, and generally lived his best life while continuing to his recovery.

Ultimately, his foster family decided that he was already home. So now we want to say 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙠 𝙮𝙤𝙪 to the Petfinder Foundation for helping us help Hugo heal.
