Texas Best Choices Animal Rescue: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The generosity of the Kia Pet Adoption Grant helped us adopt 10 lucky dogs! Your generosity allowed us to reduce our fees from $175 to $75 by subsidizing the $100 difference during a time when adoptions were very slow. The large high[-intake] shelters often have FREE adoptions, so the fee reduction for our adoptable animals helped us gain new adopters who might not have found us. We are continuing to offer lower fees to try to keep up the momentum.

How many pets did this grant help?

The Kia Pet Adoption Grant helped 10 dogs find homes.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Tiki (first photo) was found running down a busy two-lane road and scooped up by the grandson of one of our staff members. He could not keep her, so TBC stepped in to care for this tiny teacup Chihuahua.

Tiki had cherry-eye, so we had that looked at by our vet before we put her on Petfinder for adoption. It did not take long to find her the perfect home! Susan and Mark had recently lost their little teacup and instantly fell in love with our Tiki (second photo). It was a match made in heaven and we are so grateful to the Petfinder Foundation and Kia for their financial help to adopt these wonderful dogs into loving homes.

Annie (third photo) was one of a litter of four dumped on a country road. We saved their lives and started her on the path to being happy and healthy. She was the first one to be adopted after six months of waiting for a forever home. She is a darling girl. Her new mom, Maddy, says Annie comes running when she sees the leash and they are very happy together. We spayed Annie as part of the adoption requirement and Maddy was able to take her home to recuperate (fourth photo).

We rescued Luna (fifth photo) from another shelter that was closing and gave her hope for a better future. She had been with us for over six months and this was her first adoption inquiry. She is a beautiful big girl with ice-blue eyes. Lori has given her a great home and Luna is adjusting well. She loves walks and her new mom loves her!

Gayla (sixth photo) was adopted by a cute young couple who were about to be married. Gayla had been with us over a year and is a Great Dane mix, so this was a fantastic adoption for our sweet girl. She is adjusting well in her new home. Her new parents are Aaron and Mira. Mira is pictured with Gayla on her adoption day.
