SPCA of Winchester, Frederick, and Clarke DBA Winchester Area SPCA: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
Funding from the Petfinder Foundation and Kia allowed the Winchester Area SPCA to prepare eight dogs and eight cats for adoption. Funds were used to vaccinate, evaluate, spay/neuter, and microchip eight pets. The remainder of the funds allowed us to offer a reduced fee adoption event at the end of September. This event was in coordination with the local Kia dealership. The dealership did a food drive at the same time WASPCA hosted the special Kia Pet Adoption Event at the shelter's adoption center. At the end of the day, six pets found new homes (two dogs and four cats) and the dealership collected over 1,000 lbs. of pet food for the pets served at the shelter. The food drive will serve the nutritional needs of another 20 pets.

The Winchester Area SPCA (WASPCA) was informed that a friendly 3-year-old white and brown pittie mix was on the euthanasia list in a southern Virginia animal shelter due to space restrictions. This means that due to no fault of her own, Paisley was scheduled to die. Thankfully, the WASPCA has a TransFUR Program. This program allows the no-kill animal shelter to pull at-risk adoptable pets from shelters throughout the Commonwealth and place them for adoption.
Paisley was pulled from the rural shelter and transported to the WASPCA. She was determined to be in good health, and she passed her behavioral assessment with flying colors. She tested well with other dogs, cats, and children. She presented with a gentleness. She was submissive and loving, as if she knew she had been saved.
Paisley was featured for adoption during the Kia Pet Adoption celebration at the Winchester Area SPCA. The local Kia dealership partnered with our agency to host a food drive the same day as the adoption event. Donors gave us tons of dog food and we celebrated six great adoptions that day: Two dogs and four cats went to their new homes.
One of those special adoptions was Paisley. She found her perfect person thanks to the Petfinder Foundation and Kia.
Paisley’s new mom sent in a follow-up Happy Tale that reads: “Paisley fits so well with my family. Her sweet and loving personality has everyone wrapped around her paw. She loves napping and carrying her toy around everywhere. Thank you, Winchester SPCA, the Petfinder Foundation, and Kia, for giving us our sweet baby.”
