Winchester Area SPCA: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Winchester Area SPCA was honored to be awarded the Kia Pet Adoption Grant, funded by Kia and administered through the Petfinder Foundation. This generous support allowed us to make adoption more accessible by reducing fees for both cats and dogs, opening the door for more shelter pets to find the loving homes they deserve.

With the $1,000 grant, we were able to fully vet 15 shelter pets in preparation for adoption. To celebrate, the WASPCA hosted a one-day reduced-fee adoption event, lowering adoption fees to just $25. We were thrilled to partner with our local Kia dealership, Parsons Kia, which not only cheered on the adoptions but also organized a highly successful food drive that collected over 5,000 pounds of pet food for our no-kill shelter.

Thanks to this combined effort, nine pets found their forever families that day: dogs Roxy, Buck, and Blackbird, and cats Anastasia, Celeste, Coco, Jasmine, Mia, and Percy. Each of these adoptions represented not only a new beginning for the pets, but also joy, comfort, and companionship for the families who welcomed them home.

We are deeply grateful to the Petfinder Foundation and Parsons Kia for making this life-changing event possible. Your support not only reduced adoption barriers but also gave deserving animals a second chance. Together, we created a day of hope, love, and happy endings — one that will be remembered by our team, our adopters, and most importantly, our pets.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Buck, a young dog whose story captures the heart of this grant’s impact, was one of the nine lucky pets adopted during the Kia Adoption Event.

Buck came to the WASPCA through our TransFUR program, which rescues pets from overcrowded rural shelters who are at risk of euthanasia due to lack of space.

Barely a year old, Buck had already faced uncertainty, but he quickly became a staff favorite. His sweet, gentle nature made him a beloved companion to volunteers in our monthly Cat Crochet Circle, and his playful paw-print “PAWcasso” artwork (fourth and fifth photos) delighted everyone who met him. Yet, despite his charm, what Buck truly longed for was a family of his own.

Thanks to Kia’s support, Buck’s wait ended on adoption day: He is now thriving in his forever home, showered with the love and security he deserves.
