Oshkosh Area Humane Society: Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Dog Enrichment Grant has been instrumental in helping us sustain and enhance our enrichment program, ensuring that dogs in our care can express natural behaviors and remain free from fear and distress during their stay. At the Oshkosh Area Humane Society (OAHS), we are committed to supporting both the mental and physical well-being of our dogs as they await their forever homes.

Thanks to the generous support from the Petfinder Foundation, we were able to purchase durable, engaging enrichment tools such as Nylabones, Jolly Balls, extreme chew toys, and slow feeders. These items encourage instinctive behaviors like chewing, tugging, fetching, and problem-solving — activities that stimulate the dogs’ minds, engage their senses, and promote overall health and happiness.

We care for many large-breed dogs at OAHS, and this grant allowed us to provide them with safe, size-appropriate toys that meet their unique needs. The impact has been clear: happier, healthier dogs who are better prepared for successful adoptions.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Iceberg (first and second photos) is a young dog who came to OAHS in early May after being surrendered due to a prolapse that required immediate attention. Thankfully, we were able to perform a neuter and prolapse repair, and he’s now up on our adoption floor, ready to meet new friends.

At just 10 months old and 48 lbs., Iceberg is what we affectionately call a “low rider” — short, stout, and full of charm. He spends much of his time in the OAHS administrative office, where he can be close to people, soak up attention, and play with his favorite toys.

Iceberg is awaiting his forever home, and thanks to the dog enrichment grant from the Petfinder Foundation, he has plenty of enrichment toys to keep his mind active and his spirits high while he waits.

Meet Iceberg here.
